Basic Q&A

how long does a spray tan last?

Most spray tans last 7+ days, with proper prep and care.

When should I get a spray tan for an event?

For best results, spray tan 2-3 days before an event.

When should I get a spray tan for a vacation?

For best results, spray tan 1-2 days before a vacation.

How can I make my spray tan last longer?

Aside from prepping properly and caring for your tan correctly… The best way to extend your tan for a longer period than 7 days, is to use a gradual tan. A gradual tan should start being used on day 3 or 4 and then every 2 days until you’re ready for the tan to fully fade. In the studio I offer my own range of products, Ladylike Beauty.

can swimming effect my tan?

Absolutely swimming will effect your tan. You can expect your tan to fade much faster, depending on the amount of time spent in water. Chlorine will break the tan down quite quickly. Hot tubs are an absolute big NO NO!!! They will strip the tan off immediately in the mixture of hot water and chlorine, so just don’t do it!

Apparel Q&A

what should I wear to and from my tanning appointment?

For best results, wear dark loose-fitting clothing and flip flops. Avoid wearing perfumes, deodorant or makeup that can create a barrier for absorption. Avoid wearing tight clothing and shoes such as boots, socks or tights, which may rub off some of the spray tan and cause uneven results.

What should I wear during my spray tan Appointment?

If you’re looking to avoid tan lines, you are welcome to go nude (this does not apply to men and I only spray tan men that are coming in with their girlfriend or wife). If you’re not comfortable being nude for your appointment, I provide a range of disposable thong panties and disposable nipple pasties. Of course you can always wear your own undergarments or a bathing suit you aren’t worried about ruining. Due keep in mind that whatever you wear will leave extreme tan lines in the exact shape of the item worn.

Pregnancy Q&A

Every woman has a choice to make about what they feel is good and bad for their body and child during pregnancy. If proper tools are used, the benign ingredients found in spray tanning solutions should put you at ease about having a gorgeous tan during this beautiful stage in your life. Talking to your doctor about the service is still critical to caring for the health of your child. The worst-case scenario that most will suggest is simply waiting until after the first trimester, at which point there is essentially no risk.

Is spray tanning safe during pregnancy?

Due to the harmless nature of the solutions and non toxic ingredients, doctors generally find spray tans during pregnancy to be completely fine. However, they do caution that because of the unknown long-term effects, the most worrisome area of the service would be the potential inhalation of any solution. If you are at all concerned by this aspect of the service, the use of proper ventilation fans and nose plugs can help you to eliminate any risks involved.

Can hormonal changes effect the outcome of a spray tan?

Yes, changes in hormone levels of expecting mothers can lead to increased sensitivity of the skin and that can effect the results of a spray tan.

What should I do if I’m currently breastfeeding my baby?

You have a few options in this department.. but before I list those options, it is important that you breastfeed prior to your appointment. That way you have ample time to let your tan set before breastfeeding again and so that you don’t leak during your spray tan appointment. So here are your options… 1. you can choose to wear a strapless bra to avoid tanning the breast entirely. 2. you can use nipple pasties to avoid getting spray tan on your nipple (I provide disposable nipple pasties in shop). 3. you can still go completely topless and we can spray your breasts while avoiding the actual nipple itself and then immediately after the spray application you can wipe the nipple with a wet wipe (provided in shop).

What is DHA?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) — the active ingredient in all sunless tanners — is a colorless, natural, plant-derived compound that has been FDA-approved since the 70s for external application. Ladylike Spray Tans only uses eco-certified DHA solutions. In accordance with the latest FDA guidelines, we provide protective eyewear, nose filters and lip balm.
